Coco Gauff, the sixth seed at the U.S. Open, will be looking for an upset against second seed Alina Sabalenka on Saturday at Flushing Meadows in New York.
The 19-year-old Florida native is the youngest American, male or female, to reach a U.S. Open final since 17-year-old Serena Williams; when Williams accomplished the feat in 1999, she won the fastest of 23 major singles titles ...and she is the youngest man ever to win a major singles title. Now, Gauf has a chance to win her first Grand Slam title as well.
Gauchadvanced to this stage after sweeping past 10th-seededKarolina Muchova 6-4, 7-5 on Thursday. There was a 50-minute delay in the semifinals after protesters glued their feet to the stands at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
A few hours later, Gauf's opponent, Belarus, initially struggled against 19th-ranked Madison Keys. However, Sabalenka overcame a slow start to defeat the American 0-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (10-5); the 25-year-old Sabalenka will be playing her second career Grand Slam final, so she has a slight advantage in experience.
Yahoo Sports will have coverage of the match between Gauf and Sabalenka on Saturday afternoon. Below you can watch the latest highlights and developments as the pair contest the U.S. Open women's singles final.
