Alabama Blasts Homophobic, Racist Fan Words Spewed at Texas Players on Video
A 34-24 loss to Texas andbeing outplayed in most phases of the gamewas bad enough for No. 10 Alabama on Saturday. Then a video circulated that made some Crimson Tide fans look even worse.
The day after Alabama's loss to the Longhorns,a video was posted on social media of fans near the sideline at Bryant-Denny Stadium hurling homophobic slurs and racist language at the Texas players. Other fans were heard joining in, with one fan apparently shouting:
"You're f*cking f*cking f*cking. You're all f*cking f*cking. Go back to your projects, motherfuckers."
Texas athletes X'Avion Bryce and Jelani McDonald could both be seen dancing in response to the angry fans in the video.
The University of Alabamareleased a statement on Tuesdaycondemning the "vile language" used in the video and promising that anyone found doing so would be ejected and possibly expelled. However, the school did not indicate that it had identified the person in the video.
Full statement:
"We are disgusted by reports of vulgar language and inappropriate behavior on Saturday night. To be clear, we condemn this behavior and will not tolerate it in our venue. It does not represent UA or our values. We expect all attendees to conduct themselves with dignity and respect for others. We strongly encourage fans to report any issues to the venue's security personnel. Game day and late reports will be handled appropriately, and those found to be in violation of our rules and expectations will be promptly removed and may be banned from attending future events."
Texas freshman Quinton Wisner was also caught on video standing next to Bryce and McDonald. His mother, Angie Wisner, was among those who responded to the video on Sunday,posting on X that the Texas parents not only dealt with obscenities,but also beer cans, water bottles, and spit pointed at them:
"My son is up there and they want him back in the projects. It really just saddens me as a mother that he had to hear that, no matter how old he is, that they are telling him to go back to the projects.
